Assigning Books to Students
Use book assignments to provide selected students with a specific eBook or Audiobook through ePlatform.
Before assigning a title, make sure the students have been added to the correct class and that the title is available in your school’s ePlatform collection.

Before you begin
Confirm that:
- you can access the ePlatform Admin area;
- the required class has been created;
- the students have been added to the correct class;
- the students have active ePlatform patron accounts; and
- the book you want to assign is included in your ePlatform collection.
To review a class and its students, go to Admin area → Manage Classes → Add Classes.
Open Assign Books
- Sign in to your school’s ePlatform portal using a staff or administrator account.
- Open the Admin area.
- Find Manage Classes.
- Select Assign Books.
The complete navigation path is: Admin area → Manage Classes → Assign Books.
Assign a book
- Open Assign Books.
- Select the class containing the students who should receive the book.
- Select the required students.
- Find and select the eBook or Audiobook you want to assign.
- Review the selected class, students, and title.
- Complete the assignment using the available controls.
Check the student selection carefully before completing the assignment, particularly when assigning a title to several students.
Review the assignment
After assigning the book, remain in or return to Admin area → Manage Classes → Assign Books and review the assignment.
Confirm that:
- the correct title was assigned;
- the correct class was selected;
- all required students are included; and
- no students were selected by mistake.
If a student is missing, review the class membership before attempting the assignment again.
Change or remove an assignment
To review an existing assignment, go to:
Admin area → Manage Classes → Assign Books
Find the relevant assignment and review the title and selected students. Use the available assignment controls to make the required change or remove an assignment that is no longer needed.
Check that you have selected the correct assignment before applying any changes.
What the student experiences
Once a book has been assigned, the student can access it after signing in to their ePlatform account.
- Assigned eBooks and Audiobooks: the title appears with the student’s loans. If no copy is immediately available, ePlatform places a reserve for the student. The student can return an assigned eBook or Audiobook.
- Assigned Decodable and Levelled Readers: these titles have unlimited availability, so borrowing, reserving, and returning do not apply. While an assigned reader is active, other Decodable and Levelled Readers are greyed out, but the student can still open and read them.
The same title can be assigned to more than one class. Open the title and use Assign Book to select the required class or students.
If you cannot find a student
First review the class under:
Admin area → Manage Classes → Add Classes
Check that:
- the student belongs to the selected class;
- the student has an active patron account; and
- the latest patron import or account synchronisation has been completed.
You can review the student’s patron account under Admin area → Patrons.
Manually managed patron accounts
To add or update multiple patron accounts, go to:
Admin area → Patrons → Import / Update Patrons
Accounts managed through SSO or another integration
Check that the student is present in the connected source system and that their synchronised account information is current. Ask your IT team to review the source account if necessary.
If you cannot find a title
Confirm that you are searching for the correct title and that it is included in your school’s ePlatform collection.
If the title is not part of the collection, a library administrator may need to review the library catalogue or purchasing options before it can be assigned.
