How Offline Access Works
Offline access lets you continue reading a downloaded eBook or listening to a downloaded Audiobook without Wi-Fi or mobile data. You can store titles offline through your school’s ePlatform web portal or the ePlatform app.
You must borrow and download the title while your device is connected to the internet before you can use it offline.
Offline files are stored on the device and in the browser or app used for the download. To use the title offline, return to the same device and the same browser or ePlatform app.

What you can use offline
After a title has finished downloading to your device, you can:
- read the downloaded eBook; and
- listen to the downloaded Audiobook.
The downloaded title remains available through the web portal or ePlatform app for the duration of its loan.
What requires an internet connection
You need an internet connection to:
- sign in to ePlatform;
- search or browse the library;
- borrow or reserve a title;
- download an eBook or Audiobook;
- receive updated loan or reserve information; and
- sync your activity between devices.
Without an internet connection, ePlatform can only open eBooks and Audiobooks that have already finished downloading to that device.
Prepare a title for offline access
- Connect your device to the internet.
- Open the ePlatform app and sign in.
- Find and borrow the eBook or Audiobook.
- Download the title using the process for its format.
- Wait until the download has finished before going offline.
The download process is different for eBooks and Audiobooks.
How eBook and Audiobook downloads differ
| Format | How to download it | Download confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| eBook | Borrow the eBook and open it while connected to the internet. | A check mark indicates that the download has completed. |
| Audiobook | Borrow the Audiobook and select Store Offline from its menu. | Wait until the Audiobook shows that it is 100% downloaded. |
For complete instructions, see:
Find your downloaded titles
- Open the ePlatform app.
- Select Loans.
- Select the downloaded eBook or Audiobook.
If the title has finished downloading, you can open it without an internet connection.
What happens when the loan expires
Downloading a title does not change its borrowing period. The title will still be returned automatically when the loan expires.
When the loan expires, the downloaded title will no longer be available for offline reading or listening.
Remove downloaded files
You can remove downloaded files from your device before the loan expires:
- For an eBook, open its menu and select Clear Content.
- For an Audiobook, open its menu and select Clear Offline Files.
Removing the downloaded files clears the offline copy from the device.
If a title is not available offline
- Reconnect the device to the internet.
- Open the ePlatform app.
- Select Loans and open the title.
- For an eBook, confirm that the download-complete check mark is displayed.
- For an Audiobook, confirm that the download has reached 100%.
- Try opening the title again before disconnecting from the internet.
If the download still does not complete, make sure you are using a current supported browser or the latest version of the ePlatform app. If the problem continues, ask your teacher or librarian for help.
