Testing Your SSO Connection
Test your Single Sign-On connection before providing SSO instructions to all patrons. Testing confirms that patrons can sign in, their ePlatform accounts are created or updated correctly, and the required user information is received.
Before testing
Prepare two or three test accounts in your identity provider.
Each test account should contain the user information you expect ePlatform to receive, such as:
- username or barcode;
- name;
- email address;
- role;
- form or class; and
- year level.
If your library uses year-level restrictions, select test accounts with different year-level values.
Before beginning, confirm that:
- the SSO connection has been configured in your identity provider;
- the required attributes or claims are included in the SSO assertion;
- ePlatform Support has configured the corresponding ePlatform fields; and
- each test account can sign in to your identity provider.
Test SSO sign-in
- Open your library’s ePlatform sign-in page.
- Select or use your library’s configured SSO method.
- Enter the first test account’s existing school or organisation credentials.
- Complete the sign-in process.
- Confirm that the patron reaches the correct ePlatform library.
- Sign out and repeat the test with the remaining accounts.
Record any error message displayed and whether the problem affects one account or every test account.
Check the patron account
After a successful SSO sign-in, check that ePlatform created or updated the patron account correctly.
- Sign in to ePlatform separately using an administrator account.
- Open the Admin area.
- Select Patrons.
- Locate the first test patron.
- Open the patron record.
- Compare the displayed information with the test account in your identity provider.
- Repeat the check for the remaining test accounts.
Check the information your SSO connection is configured to send, including:
- username or barcode;
- name;
- email address;
- role;
- form or class; and
- year level.
If the account is created but optional information is blank, the corresponding attribute may not be included in the SSO assertion or aligned with the required ePlatform field.
Test attribute updates
If patron information should update through SSO, test a change using one test account.
- Record the test patron’s current form, class, or year-level value in ePlatform.
- Change that value in your identity provider.
- Allow the test patron to sign in to ePlatform using SSO again.
- Return to Admin area → Patrons.
- Open the test patron’s record.
- Confirm that the updated value appears.
ePlatform receives the mapped information when the patron signs in. Check the patron record after completing a new SSO sign-in.
Test reader access
A successful SSO sign-in should also be tested through the normal reader experience.
- Sign in using a test patron account.
- Browse or search for an available eBook or Audiobook.
- Borrow the title.
- Open the title.
- Confirm that reading or playback begins.
If your library uses year-level restrictions, repeat the test with accounts assigned to different year levels and confirm that the expected content access is applied.
If a test is unsuccessful
One account cannot sign in
- Confirm that the account can sign in to the identity provider.
- Confirm that the account contains the required user information.
- Record the error message displayed during the ePlatform sign-in attempt.
- Repeat the test with another account.
All test accounts cannot sign in
- Confirm that the configured SSO method is being used.
- Confirm that the SSO configuration is active in your identity provider.
- Record the error message displayed.
- Contact your IT team and ePlatform Support with the test results.
The account is created but information is missing
- Confirm that the missing information exists in the identity provider.
- Confirm that the corresponding attribute is included in the SSO assertion.
- Record the exact attribute or claim name.
- Contact ePlatform Support so the attribute mapping can be reviewed.
