Resetting a Patron’s Password
Library administrators can reset the password for a manually managed patron account from the Patrons page.
If the patron signs in through SSO or another connected school system, their password must be reset through that system instead of ePlatform.

Identify how the patron signs in
Before resetting a password, confirm whether the account is managed manually in ePlatform or through an external system.
| Sign-in method | Where the password is managed |
|---|---|
| Manual ePlatform account | Reset the password from the ePlatform Patrons page. |
| Single Sign-On (SSO) | Use the school's normal password-reset process. |
| SIP2, LDAP, or API-managed account | Reset the credentials in the connected library, directory, or school system. |
Reset a manually managed password
- Sign in to your library's ePlatform portal as an administrator.
- Open the Admin area.
- Select Patrons.
- Locate the affected patron in the patron list.
- Select the patron account.
- Find the password field or password-reset control.
- Enter the new password.
- Save the account changes.
The navigation path is: Admin area → Patrons → select the patron account.
Provide the new password securely
- Give the password only to the patron or an authorised staff member.
- Do not include the password in public notices or shared documents.
- Confirm that the patron also knows the correct Barcode or username and library sign-in page.
Test the new password
- Ask the patron to open the correct ePlatform library.
- Ask them to go to the library's sign-in page.
- Enter the patron's Barcode or username.
- Enter the new password.
- Confirm that the account can sign in successfully.
If the patron is using the mobile app, also confirm that they have added the correct school or library before attempting to sign in.
Passwords managed by another system
ePlatform does not manage the password used by an SSO account. The patron should use the school's standard password-recovery process or contact the school's IT administrator.
Accounts authenticated through SIP2, LDAP, or an API may also rely on credentials stored in another system. Confirm the account's authentication method before making changes in ePlatform.
Update passwords for multiple patrons
If several manually managed patron accounts need updating, use: Admin area → Patrons → Import / Update Patrons.
Download the current sample template and follow the instructions in Importing and Updating Patrons.
If the patron still cannot sign in
- Confirm that the patron opened the correct library.
- Check the Barcode or username recorded on the patron account.
- Confirm that the new password was saved.
- Check whether the account uses manual or automated authentication.
- If the account uses SSO or another integration, test the patron's credentials through the connected school system.
If the problem continues, contact ePlatform Support. Include the library name, the patron's authentication method, and any error message displayed. Do not include the patron's password.
