Listening to an eBook with Read Aloud
Microsoft Immersive Reader can read an eBook aloud while highlighting each word as it is spoken. You can also change the narration speed and choose the available reading voice.

Open Read Aloud
- Open Loans.
- Select the eBook and then select Read.
- Select the Immersive Reader icon inside the eBook Reader.
Start the narration
Select Play Narration to listen to the text displayed in Immersive Reader.

Follow the word highlighting
While the narration is playing, Immersive Reader highlights each word as it is spoken. This allows you to follow the written text while listening.
Change the voice speed
- Open Voice Settings in Immersive Reader.
- Adjust the voice-speed control.
- Select Play Narration to listen at the new speed.
The available voice-speed range is from 0.5 to 2.5:
- lower values make the narration slower;
- 1.0 is the standard speed; and
- higher values make the narration faster.

Change the reading voice
Open Voice Settings to choose between the available male and female reading voices.
- Open Voice Settings.
- Select the male or female voice.
- Select Play Narration.
Listen to translated text
Immersive Reader provides Read Aloud support for more than 50 translated languages.
- Open Reading Preferences.
- Use Translate to select a language.
- Choose the option to translate the complete text.
- Select Play Narration.
When narration is available for the selected language, Immersive Reader reads the translated text aloud and highlights each word as it is spoken.
